"COMPTON, a parish in the first division of the hundred of Godalming, in the county of Surrey, 4 miles N.W. of Guildford, its post town, and the same distance from Godalming. It is situated under Hog's Back Hill, and has attached to it the manors of Eastbury, Westbury, and Field Place. There is a large common.The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Winchester, value £380, in the patronage of J. M. Molyneux, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. Nicholas, is an ancient edifice, partly in the early English style. It has a chapel ever the chancel, which has been recently restored. The charities amount to £13, and there is a National school."
