An 1868 Gazetteer description of the following places in


EPSOM

"EPSOM, a parish and market town in the first division of the hundred of Copthorne, county Surrey, 9 miles N. of Reigate, and 15 S. of London by the turnpike road, or 18 by railway. Both the London and Brighton and London and South-Western lines have stations in the town, which is seated on the main road to Guildford and Worthing." (There is more of this description).

"CLAY-HILL, a hamlet in the parish of Epsom in the county of Surrey, near Epsom."

"HORTON, a hamlet in the parish of Epsom, first division of the hundred of Copthorn, county Surrey, 1¾ mile N. of Epsom. The principal residence is Horton Place, formerly the seat of Lord Baltimore."
