Dan Griffiths ‘On The Level’
9th – 17th June
In response to the subject proposed by I.D.E.A.London of
‘challenging the nature of the ICA, and indeed the wider
issue of the art institution’ Dan Griffiths has produced
a watercolour drawing. He has employed acronyms and
initialisms of various worldwide art institutions and
placed them in a triangle, or pyramid format, flat on
the page. The enigmatic text hints at the coded nature
of the art establishment and its elite. It is also scored
through to suggest a rejection.
The piece is hung inside the ICA’s director’s office for
the duration of I.D.E.A.London, beyond the publicly accessible
areas. It is for the director’s eyes only. A photograph
documenting the drawing in the office will be displayed
elsewhere in the building for the public to view.
