Term 1: Literature Review and Project Specification
During term 1, you are expected to conduct a survey of literature relevant to your project title, and write an extended report on that survey,
analysing the literature and synthesising the ideas you find in a way that makes them accessible to the informed reader. At the end of term, you
must submit a draft of this report, which will form the basis of the background chapter of your MSci dissertation. You will present a lecture on
your survey work to your peers and their supervisors. You will be assessed on the presentation, but not on the draft document at this stage. However,
you will be penalised if you miss the deadline for the document. Finally, you are expected to lay out the design and working plan for the main part
of the project, in Term 2.
Term 2: Main Project Work
During term 2, you are expected to carry out the project as specified in Term 1. At the end of term, you must submit a draft description of
what you have done, which will form the basis of the central chapter of your MSci dissertation. You will present a lecture on your work to your peers
and their supervisors. You will be assessed on the presentation, but not on the draft document at this stage. However, you will be penalised if you
miss the deadline for the document. Finally, you are expected to lay out your plans for evaluation of your project, to be carried out at the start
of Term 3.
Term 3: Evaluation and Writing Up
During term 3, you are expected to carry out a formal evaluation of your project work, as specified in Term 2, and then to write up your
project as a substantial dissertation, which will be based on the draft documents from the previous two terms. This is to be submitted at the end
of week 9 of term 3. You will then spend week 10 preparing for your final presentation, of the whole project, in week 11, which, again, is given to
your peers and their supervisors.
