HESC notes:
1. The imminent imposition of deep cuts in higher education;
2. The treatment of job losses at London Metropolitan, Leeds, Kings and
UCL and other institutions as individual rather than national disputes;
3.
UCU engagement in discussions over USS pension scheme changes
HESC believes:
1. Defending jobs and tertiary education as a priority now will prove
essential in the pursuit of pay bargaining 2. UCU should insist on the
link between protection of jobs and both pay and pensions.
HESC resolves:
1. To launch a national campaign against cuts and job losses and for the sector
2. To develop a pay claim in association with other campus unions
that protects pensions
2. To ballot for industrial action before the summer of 2010 should UCEA institutions refuse to negotiate to prevent redundancies;
4. That the ballot should link explicitly our negotiations over jobs with protection of pay and pensions.
